What's up?

Our   lives   begin   to   end   the   day   we   become   silent   about   things   that   matter.

"Out  of  sorrow,
entire  worlds  have  been  built...
Out  of   longing,
great  wonders  have  been  willed..."

Only  those  who  risk  going  too  far
can  possibly  find  out  how  far  one  can  go.

People matter.
The influence of digital technology has become pervasive in nearly every aspect of our lives.
Virtual reality themes abound.
But  one  simple  thing remains:  people  matter  most.
There  is  no  replacement  for  original  thought,  human  intuition,  individuality & compassion.

Integrative medicine works by blending  state-of-the-art   traditional western techniques with complementary or alternative therapies and by enlisting a patient's involvement in the healing process.  The incorporation of self-care attitudes and skills provides an integral dimension to medical care.
Integrative medicine recognizes and encourages a patient's own vital role in health and the healing process.  It expands a patient's treatment options.  It can help people live longer and enjoy a better quality of life than those who receive fragmented medical care.  It offers the best of both worlds by promoting a partnership between patient and doctor over a period of time.
Like many relationships, the longer you know someone, the more attuned you become to changes in this person's life.  You know when to listen, when to give advice or simply when to offer comfort and reassurance.   You also know when to refer them to the best specialists while continuing to coordinate this person's care.

NATURAL   HORMONE   THERAPY  OPTIONS
What  are  MENOPAUSE  symptoms..?
Hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, insomnia, PMS - like symptoms, memory loss, changes in skin, depression, irritability, heavy and / or irregular periods, water retention, increased facial hair growth, fibrocystic breast disease, weakening of bones, osteoporosis, diminished libido, loss of energy, vaginal dryness, some migraines associated with your periods, acne - like breakouts...to name a few...

DIET:  ITS  ROLE  IN  OSTEOPOROSIS
1)  Natural plant hormones or phyto-estrogens and phyto-progesterones  have weak hormonal action.  They can offer some protection from osteoporosis.  I am not aware that there is enough reliable data to support their use  in – lieu  of more conventional estrogen replacement therapy.  Getting regular osteoporosis testing (e.g.  DEXA  scanning) can help measure your response to therapy (or lack thereof).
**These natural plant hormones have definitely improved a number of menopausal symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes, irritability, fatigue, low libido, migraines, insomnia.  However, considering estrogen in light of osteoporosis alone is not realistic.  Keep in mind that estrogen has  beneficial effects in cardiovascular diseases; Alzheimers’; reducing the incidence of certain cancers of the colon & lung.

DRIED FRUITS
Dates, prunes, figs, raisins.  These are also richer in calcium.
FRESH FRUITS
Apples, bananas, mangoes, papayas
VEGETABLES
Broccoli, spinach, celery, dark green vegetables, & yellow vegetables; soy beans, lentil, tofu, miso, tamari.
WHOLE GRAINS
Most types - in particular, oats, corn, wheat, rye, millet
SEEDS
Sesame, pumpkin, sunflower, alfalfa, lentil, soya bean, red clover, mung beans
SPICES
Garlic, ginger, horseradish, nutmeg, rosemary, chives, parsley, kelp, watercress, sage
HONEY
From bee pollen, wild flowers.
NUTS
Peanuts, walnuts, almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, nut oils.
PROTEINS
They make up 30 % of the weight of our bones.  Too much as well as too little protein can increase risks for osteoporosis.  Excess protein intake (over 170 grams per day) leads to calcium breakdown from your bones to buffer increased quantities of acids derived from such high protein intake.
The recommended daily intake for adult men & women is 40 - 55 grams. The average adult intake is 90 grams.
It is best to obtain protein from white meat, fish, nuts, seeds, wholegrains, & beans than from red meat / high fat dairy products.
ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS
Linoleic / linolenic acid (aka omega poly-unsaturated fatty acids) from your diet. For example 1 1/4 oz of nuts or seeds daily.
SATURATED FATS
High intake of these causes a reduction in absorption of calcium & magnesium from the gut.  Daily intake  of saturated fats should be limited to 30 % of total calories per day.
POTASSIUM INTAKE
Low potassium intake hinders the adequate uptake of calcium (as well as magnesium).  Hence it increases the risk of osteoporosis.
Note that calcium deficiency is not easily corrected unless potassium body stores are replenished as well.
High sources of potassium:  seafood, fresh fruit (bananas, tomatoes, grapefruit, dried apricot, pears); fruit juices; mushrooms, spinach, eggplants, peppers, potatoes, squash, peas, lima beans, wholegrain cereals
CAFFEINE
2 large cups of coffee (300 mg caffeine) can cause a further loss of 15 mg of calcium a day via increased urinary excretion, increased calcium resorption from bone.  This can amount to  5 - 10 % bone loss in a ten year period after menopause.
Try to ingest an extra 40 grams of calcium daily for every 6 oz of coffee or tea.
TOO MUCH SUGAR
This is associated with increased risk of osteoporosis, loss of calcium / copper / magnesium / zinc / chromium.
SODAS
are associated with increased risk for osteoporosis because higher phosphorus intake requires more calcium to be leached from your bones.

PMS / MENOPAUSE
Soy isoflavinoids  3x / day
Black cohash  3x / day
Evening Primrose  3x / day
Wild yam cream for hot flashes
u
GENTLE  CHANGES

A readily absorbable natural progesterone (phytoprogesterone) cream applied daily 2 - 3 weeks of the month...Women report improvement of their symptoms in  3 - 12  weeks.
u
3)   SHOULD  Progesterone  be  used  with  natural  estrogen  as  well  as  with  "traditional"  estrogen  replacement  therapy?
YEs  in both instances.  It is well-known that prolonged unopposed estrogen therapy is associated with a  higher   risk / incidence of endometrial cancers.
u
4)   Evening oil of primrose;  vitamin E  400  i.u  2x / day;
     pyridoxine  100  mg 1x / day

6)       Do  not  smoke. Avoid heavy consumption of alcohol.
7)       Get a bone density test at the first sign of menopause.
8)       Get a bone density test in your  30's  or  40's  if you have risk factors for osteoporosis.   Please refer to our  website:   www.llorente.com/hyperbaric
A  DEXA  bone density scan can be performed to determine your response to calcium intake, estrogen therapy and other medications (e.g. Fosamax, Miacalcin spray etc.).
Avoid  Aluminum - containing antacids (e.g. Rolaid) because they cause further loss of calcium form your bones.  TUMS  is fine.

Natural  Suggestions for Allergies, Sinus problems

Nutritional Supplements for sinus conditions associated with Candida (a yeast)
1)  Lactobacillus acidophilus:   1/2  tsp per day  to be taken one half hour before breakfast to control yeast overgrowth & replace "good" bacteria.
